At the same time, the costs associated with producing electricity from solar PV (photovoltaics) have dropped significantly in recent years, and solar PV are now one of the most cost-effective and competitive ways of producing electricity.

This twentyfold increase in photovoltaic capacity in only one year urged the Danish government to cut back its net-metering scheme. In December 2012, Danish parliament reduced the compensation period of net-metering from a yearly to an hourly bases and increased in turn the granted feed-in tariffs.

However, in recent years, the residential solar PV market has gained momentum as the technology has become more affordable and efficient due to high costs of electricity, and reducing pay back time amid declining cost of solar panels in the global market.

One of the challenges lies in Denmark’s plan to introduce producer tariffs from 2023, which will result in significant cost increases for renewable energy plants. The new tariff model will require renewable energy producers to pay for grid connections in accordance with their geographical location.

PVPS objectives: to contribute to cost reduction of PV power applications, to increase awareness of the potential and value of PV power systems, to foster the removal of both technical and non-technical barriers and to enhance technology co-operation.
